FIA WORLD RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
RD6: RIGA RX - LATVIA
It's data, data, data for UNKORRUPTED in Latvia
Round 6 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Latvia saw the UNKORRUPTED team test run additional diff changes and tweaks to the set up to gather comparable data for post event analysis.
Following a quick morning warm up on day 2 of this double header event in Riga in the early morning sunshine, Guerlain Chicherit finished a clean first qualifier in 4th and P15 overall on a track that proved quicker than yesterday in the dry conditions.
Teammate Rokas Baciuska’s Q1 time saw him in P14 overall, however, a broken front left steering arm following contact at the start of Q2 forced the Lithuanian to retire and pushed him into P16.
Meanwhile, Chicherit raced his way into P2 in Q2 and maintained his P15 overall going into the last qualifier of the day. Holding the line against the pack into turn 1, Q3 saw no change to overall standings for Chicherit and he finished his day in P15.
Meanwhile, Baciuska chased down Paasonen in his last qualifier of the day and overtook the Finnish driver to finish the day just behind his UNKORRUPTED team mate in P16.
Now, ahead of round 7 & 8, another double header of the 2020 season in Barcelona, Spain, the hard work continues as the UNKORRUPTED team analyses all the data collected from this weekend’s test changes and tweaks to integrate into the test programme planned for the next few weeks.
GUERLAIN CHICHERIT - P15 OVERALL
P15 in Q1 / P12 in Q2 / P16 in Q3
“As an athlete, for sure it’s tough to turn up when you’re not fighting for the top but motorsport is not easy, and it was important to get this weekend’s runs to gather enough information and test the changes made ahead of our pre-Barcelona testing. I’m really grateful to the mechanics and the rest of the team, they just keep pushing on despite frustrations as we try to learn as much as possible in what is an incredibly short, hectic season this year. I’m really happy to see the work I’ve put in over the off-season on my own driving style come through as we can see it’s got much cleaner. Now I hope we make some progress ahead of Barcelona to see it come together.”, Chicherit commented.
ROKAS BACIUSKA - P16 OVERALL
P14 in Q1 / P17 in Q2 / P15 in Q3
“A weekend like this is hard because I want to race to win but we knew it was going to be a data-finding exercise and need to focus on the changes we can make and the improvements we can find.”, Baciuska added.
